Controlling and Deterring Large Pests

Hello, and welcome to my blog! My name is Dee, and I hate pests. I have struggled with many pests in my home, but contrary to popular misconception, these pests have been bigger than mice or cockroaches or ants. Rather, I have had squirrels in the attic and various marsupials living under my porch. This blog is devoted to getting rid of the larger animals. It contains everything I have learned about removing and deterring these creatures. If you hate pests but want to focus on the larger pests, you have come to the right place. Please explore my blog and enjoy!

Which Spider Extermination Methods Work?

by Katrina Alvarez

If you are facing a spider infestation in your home or business premises, then you may have to down the route of a full fumigation service. This only tends to be effective if you hire a professional in spider extermination to undertake the work for you since spiders can be adept at avoiding so-called smoke bombs. That being said, there are some spider control methods you can do for yourself that will help to keep the number of spiders on your property to a minimum. What are some of the most effective ones?

  • Remove Insects

You don't necessarily need to kill spiders in order to get rid of them. Arachnids usually prey on insects as well as each other. Therefore, if you get rid of their primary food source, they will often begin hunting one another, thereby keeping their numbers lower. Turn off your lights at night or close your windows when you have them on so that insects are less likely to come flying into your home. This way, there will be less food available to the spiders in your space.

  • Vacuum Your Property

A highly effective spider extermination method is to suck them up in your vacuum cleaner. Once they are inside it, they won't be able to get out even if they survive the experience. What's more, cleaning your home frequently means there will be less dust around for insects to feed on, something which spiders won't like since it means they'll have fewer hunting opportunities. Equally, sucking up webs means that spiders have to spend more energy and time spinning them anew rather than waiting for prey to fall into them. Keep vacuuming even if you don't capture spiders at first since this is a way to deal with them in an attritional manner.

  • Use Spidercide Sprays

Spidercides are not much different from insecticides, only they are used for spider extermination. Most come in a spray format. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions or consult a pest control professional because, in too great a quantity, such products can have unwanted side effects. Only use these products in out-of-the-way locations like the corner of a garage or a loft space where you won't come into contact with the chemicals very often. If there is a way for spiders to crawl into your building, perhaps through some ducting or an underground pipe, then these sorts of locations are good places to apply the spray.
