Controlling and Deterring Large Pests

Hello, and welcome to my blog! My name is Dee, and I hate pests. I have struggled with many pests in my home, but contrary to popular misconception, these pests have been bigger than mice or cockroaches or ants. Rather, I have had squirrels in the attic and various marsupials living under my porch. This blog is devoted to getting rid of the larger animals. It contains everything I have learned about removing and deterring these creatures. If you hate pests but want to focus on the larger pests, you have come to the right place. Please explore my blog and enjoy!

4 Helpful Tips and Tricks to Eliminate Pests in Your Home

by Katrina Alvarez

Pests not only pose a health risk to your family, but also can ruin a very nice experience. For instance, picture you and your friend having a nice home cooked meal in the kitchen. Suddenly, you both spot a cockroach running on the kitchen counter heading into the pantry. Your guest will have second thoughts about the food that you have prepared, no matter how amazing it tastes. Therefore, prevent such embarrassing moments by elimination roaches, mosquitoes, rodents, and ants from your home. Here are a few tips and tricks to help you.

Clean Meticulously -- Pests generally thrive in a dirty kitchen, filled with leftovers, spills, and crumbs. You should always remove food crumbs and clean spills as soon as possible. Use homemade ingredients such as a combination of water and vinegar or baking soda to cleanse your counter-top, cooker, and fridge. Remove any food particles on the floor to prevent feeding these unwanted guests. Starving these pests is the only sure way of ridding your home of vermin. Also, clean all drains, especially underneath the kitchen sink because they accumulated grime, which can be a favorite breeding ground for rodents and coaches.

Sealing Entry Points -- It will be counterproductive to eliminate all pests in your house if you do not fix all their entry points in the first place. Your windows and doors are the major culprits when it comes to allowing most pests into your house. Seal all tiny gaps and cracks around your house, especially on dry walls. Also, install new window stripping and a fine screen mesh on all windows to take care of flies.

Store Bins Outside the House -- Waste bins that do not have air-tight lids should be stored outside the kitchen. When kitchen waste is left in the bin for several days, it can attract rodents that may set up shop in your kitchen. Therefore, dispose of such waste frequently.  After disposing of the waste, clean the bin thoroughly and ensure that it is dry. Bacterial accumulation in the bin can be a health hazard, apart from the fact that it can also harbor roaches and flies. Moreover, if the garbage bin is not animal-proof, it should be secured tightly outside the kitchen.

Safe Storage of Leftovers -- All leftovers should be stored in well sealed food containers immediately after cooling. Store the containers in the refrigerator or at room temperature, depending on the type of food. Leaving leftovers on the counter-top is a recipe for attracting vermin.

However, if you have a pest infestation problem in your home, never hesitate to hire a qualified pest control contractor.
